Meet The Team

Marky Hampton,
Group Lead Volunteer
I joined the worldwide family of Scouting when I was 6, starting in beavers with 53rd Birstall Scout Group (North East Leicester District). My favourite memory is going to Uganda with scouting in 2006 to build protected springs when I was 16, this was truly life changing. I've learned patience and confidence through scouting and made plenty of friends. The most challenging, but rewarding thing I have done is getting this group to where it is now.

Paddy Mallaburn,
Assistant Group Lead Volunteer
I have been in the scouting community for 15+ years since i was a cub. I committed to scouting because I wanted to give something back to the community and do something for others. I love making kids go home with a smile after they are exhausted from the activities. I've met a lot of interesting people through scouting and if I was to change something in scouts I wouldn't because of the experiences I've had.

Helen Mchattie,
Squirrels Lead Volunteer
I joined our scout group in April of 2015 and I the thing I enjoy most is seeing the younger ones achieve new and impressive things - also, seeing the shy ones come out of their shells and bloom into skilled, confident young people. My favourite part about being a leader is planning all of the programs so that they are enjoyable for the kids. My favourite memory in my time at scouts is opening our Squirrels section in 2022, because its new and we were the first grouo in our district to give the opportunity.

Chloe Mchattie,
Scouts Lead Volunteer
I joined our scout group in 2015 and I enjoy the banter and the community feel involved with being a leader. My favourite part about being a leader is providing the new and exciting experiences to the younger ones that don't always have the opportunity to obtain it elsewhere. My best memory is, while on a camp, finding a green pig in the woods which we kept as our honorary "mascot" of the section.

Dave 'Gaffers' Gaffney, Cubs Lead Volunteer
I started out as a beaver, went straight through scouts, moved house then lost touch with scouting. After leaving the air force I wanted to do something to fill time in so I became a leader in the Scouting community.

Joseph Watson, Beavers Lead Volunteer
I joined the group at 8 years old while I was in the Cubs section. I enjoy the banter most while volunteering in the sections. My favourite thing to do with the group is to go on camps and hikes with the sections. My best memory throughout my time in the sections is doing Dragnet with a network team in 2024.

Paul Walkington, Explorers Lead Volunteer
I got into scouting as a cub and I've been in it for about 15 years and went up to adventurer (now explorers) and became a leader. I enjoy passing on his knowledge to the explorers and seeing them improve
